Pathway Programs

The office of Institutional Access, Success & Belonging is proud to support AU’s strategic enrollment goals by creating, facilitating and managing curated pathway experiences for prospective 鶹ýӳ students.

IASB identifies and engages prospective AU students through events and experiences that will help them define and reach their future educational goals. ASB enthusiastically partners with colleges, department and offices to support, create, and launch targeted programming.

Current Pathway Options

Masterclass

Representatives from programs or departments travel to local schools or programs to provide a guided learning experience (Currently available in Theatre, Communication, Health Sciences)

Spotlight: Student for a Day

High School students visit campus and explore an academic department or college by touring unique spaces and places within, meeting students and faculty, and participating in class simulations and exercises (Currently available in Hull College of Business, College of Allied Health Sciences, Pamplin College of the Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences – Communication and Visual Art)

Department Event

Periodically, Department or programs host events in which students experience exposure to a variety of dimensions of the depth and distinctives available at 鶹ýӳ (Currently: the Hull Cup Invitational, ROTC @ AU, Choral Day)

University Event

Burke County Comprehensive High School | Waynesboro, GA

We are a rural HS and we generally take around 40-50 students, 9th through 12th grade, to attend the College of Allied Health Sciences field trips.  The students—some of whom have never stepped foot on a college campus—get great exposure. The students really, really love the small group rotations AU provides through its programs like Respiratory Therapy. These trips open their eyes to the possibilities of where they can go and what they can do in the future.

Our students get to interact with the AU Health Sciences students, which is a great experience for them. We interacted with a student that actually attended Burke County HS, so current students got to see for themselves real work and they got to have one-on-one conversations and could ask questions, and they reflected, “Hey, I can make it. She made it.”

HIPAA can really limit our healthcare students’ access and exposure to see careers in healthcare. AU has been super, super generous. One of our students was considering a career as a Physician Assistant and through the College of Allied Health Sciences field trip, she realized how important taking advantage of our Health Science Program at Aiken High School is. She now understands the importance not only of taking advantage of courses at Aiken High School but also how she might maximize her future. Going into the dental Hygienist’s lab, you are giving unprecedented access and through that access…that experience is solidifying.”

We see this as a purposeful investment into the youth who may potentially be future healthcare providers. It’s important for them to see what we do here in real life. We also want to increase the awareness and knowledge that we are here at 鶹ýӳ within the College of Allied Health Sciences to tell them about other careers they may not know about such as respiratory therapy, clinical laboratory science or radiation therapy.
